Our A litter, born January 13, 2013
Left to right at three months old: Anna, Angelo, Ava, Alma, Aslan, Attila, Anika and Adam.
Hannah's first litter of eight puppies is pictured above, shortly after birth and as they grew. They started arriving after 3 am, while the last was born after 9 am the next morning, proving we older humans can still pull an all-nighter if we must! The puppies were born in our home under close supervision, and they stayed in our home with their mother Hannah and father Avar until they were about twelve weeks old. We saw how much they learned from having both parents around and how much the extra weeks meant to their development and maturity and we would not consider shortening that essential period in their development. If dogs are the most social animal in the world, they need good home training before venturing out into the rest of society!
The pictures above show their colors well. Four of these puppies are what is called "Tri-colors" and four are "Black and Tan." Both are correct under the Breed Standards of the FCI, as long as the Black and Tan hounds have a smidgen of white on their chest and the Tri-colors don't have too much white.
The puppies were weaned when Hannah decided it was time, and were already eating solid food at the time. Their diet was entirely organic, prepared fresh three times each day, with their diet changing as they grew. They averaged twelve ounces at birth; two months later, their average weight was nearly fifteen pounds! One night, I asked Maria about the hamburger she was cooking--she told me it was for the puppies, but I could have some too. It was organic, of course, and it was delicious!
These puppies have found homes in California, Indiana and Pennsylvania and all are doing well. All were toilet-trained to a specific location, all knew several commands, all were leash-trained and all were crate-trained when they went to their new owners. That may sound like a lot but it's not--these are intelligent dogs.
Attila, who stayed with us, won several awards at the FCI Dog Show of the Americas held in Puerto rico in November 2013, carrying on his father Avar's show winning tradition. Avar is an FCI International Champion, having won in Puerto Rico and in several European countries.
